Unexpected chemicals at home led to police cordon and Cleveleys beach explosion

A cordon was established and a controlled explosion carried out after potentially explosive chemicals were unexpectedly discovered at a property.
The chemicals, some of which were not explosive, were found during a house clearance at Nutter Road in Thornton-Cleveleys yesterday (November 2) and reported to police just after midday.
A cordon around the property was established by police - who called in disposal teams to assist with the incident.
A controlled explosion was then carried out on Cleveleys beach. Police said that they believed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the discovery of the chemicals.
A spokesperson for police told The Blackpool Lead: We were called at 12.18pm on 2 November to an address in Nutter Road, Thornton-Cleveleys, to a report chemicals had been found during a house clearance.
“Officers attended and a cordon was placed around the property.
“Some of the chemicals which had the potential to be of an explosive nature, were removed from the property yesterday (4th November) and taken to Cleveleys beach.
“A controlled explosion was carried out by our colleagues from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.
“It is believed the chemicals had been at the house for a number of years and there are no suspicious circumstances as to why they were there.”
