Amber warning for Blackpool with Storm Darragh set to bring very high winds
The warning is in place for the Fylde Coast and much of the western coast of England
Potentially damaging winds associated with Storm Darragh are likely to cause problems in Blackpool.
That is the verdict of an amber weather warning issued by the Met Office that warns of damage to buildings, flying debris, fallen trees, power cuts and a potential danger to life as a result of high waves.
The amber warning is in place from 3am until 9pm tomorrow (7 December) and covers the majority of the western coast of England, including the Fylde Coast.
Jason Kelly, chief forecaster for the Met Office, said: “Storm Darragh is an evolving system and will bring several hazards, including wind gusts of up to 70-80mph around western coasts, especially from Devon and Cornwall to southwest Scotland and Northern Ireland.
“Wind speeds in inland areas will be slightly reduced with maximum gusts expected to reach 60-70mph.”
The strongest winds are expected to ease into the afternoon even if the warning remains in place until 9pm, according to the Met Office.
An amber warning is issued in the UK in rare circumstances, with yellow warnings much more common and red warnings - the most serious the Met Office can issue - the rarest.
